Just for the Lady Lawyers

You’re female, and you’re a lawyer. (Me too!)

And your life as a lawyer? Not always easy. Not always fun.

You are basically on call, all day and night. Your weekends and vacations are always in danger of disappearing — that much is not news to anyone on the planet.

But when you push back a bit, just to go to a wedding (that you’re in) or dinner with your parents (who are in town for one night), you actually feel guilty. Sigh.

You kind of sort of wonder if all of the sacrifice is really worth it. I mean, we both know you have a lot going for you — besides being successful in your career (admit it!), you don’t even look like a lawyer (you’re definitely hot) and you even have cool, non-legal interests. You’re even kind of a creative person.

But you’re in the same routine you’ve been in for years, little has changed (other than being several years older). And you’re starting to wonder if this whole thing is really going to work out so well for you.

You know what I mean: you are not absolutely in love with your job (by any stretch) and you wonder if you’re really at your best right now. When you look at the partners running this show, you are not so sure you want their job. So, it’s kind of like, what’s the point?

At the very least you know that there is room for improvement. Things are fine, even really good by some standards, but joy is not something you experience on your way to work in the morning, and there’s some stuff you wish you had (love, being in shape, time with your family) that you just don’t, really.

And “work-life balance” has certainly not been achieved in your life. It’s more like “work-work… now back to more work.”

But here’s the secret — it doesn’t have to be this way.

And things being better does not necessarily mean (in fact, it often doesn’t mean) that your life needs some massive overhaul. But it doesn’t have to be like this.

Not that you’re crazy for feeling how you do (you’re not — AT ALL) and not that there is one thing wrong with you (there is absolutely nothing wrong with you). You’re very, very normal for feeling this way. I felt the same way when I was in your shoes.

I was where you are now: I wasn’t confident that my career was 100% right for me (in terms of content and lifestyle), my quality of life wasn’t high enough for me, and I just felt unrest about where I was. I basically got to a point where the slow suffering of not being all that happy wore me completely out and I didn’t see it getting better on its own.

So, I did everything on the planet that a person can do (1) to feel better NOW, and (2) to figure out, long-term, what to do to make my life better.

  • A lot of the stuff I did helped — and a lot of stuff was really stupid and did not help at all. Or even made me feel crappier.

But, the stuff that helped changed my entire life. Seriously. I love my job — my work really energizes me, I have a handle on what really matters to me and my life reflects those things. I love where I live. I have the world’s best boyfriend (he will be so embarrassed that I said that). I just feel really, really good.

I ended up changing the way my career as a lawyer looks — right now, I’m just doing pro bono work while I also work with people on figuring their careers and selves out and write about it.

But sometimes, your life just needs a few tweaks. I’ve known many female attorneys who have worked through their discontent with me to find that their lives just require small changes once we sort through what the issues really are.

Sure, it’s always a work in progress — in fact, there is a lot of work involved in having a great life, and sometimes (like, when you first start doing it) that work may not always be crazy-fun. You may have some negative feelings you’ve been trying not to feel that need to be felt (if you want to get rid of them).

But usually the work I do on myself and in the world to be this happy doesn’t feel like work — it’s more like a massage for my brain.

The stuff that got me to where I am today and keeps me on track is the stuff I want to do with you until you’re all feeling great and having the time of your life. Because, you only get one, and you get to enjoy it, if that’s what you want to do (definitely my recommendation).

Ways this will make your life better:

  1. You are happier now (without a complete life overhaul — or even a partial overhaul, for that matter).
  2. You get rid of most of your stress (I’m not kidding — the anxiety and stress is get-ridable).
  3. You will also know if it’s right for you to make some changes in your life (though, you, of course, never actually have to do anything) and what the changes should be.
  4. The total terror around making those potential changes? You’ll make it feel more like a house cat and less like a jungle cat.
  5. You will (again, if it’s what you want to do) make the changes in ways that will not freak you out, and have the life that is right for you.
  6. Lots of other collateral benefits (people have lost a lot of weight, found love, fallen into new, dream opportunities as they work through the malaise — or misery, depending on how bad this has gotten for you).

Logistically, what are we doing here:

You and I talk on the phone for 5o minutes (I give you a call, wherever you are — definitely the most convenient way to be doing this, for your busy lifestyle).

You’ll tell me the areas where you’re not that happy and struggling (at work or any other area of your life). We’ll get you feeling better now by doing lots of different things, like little creative activities and adding fun stuff to your day.

When you feel better, you have more energy for us to deal with the stuff that’s not working for you, while we uncover what you really want, and how to get you there. And you actually do it (when you feel ready and if you want to). It’s totally great.

We work together for you to get into the right life for you, in every sense of that.

And the best part? It’s really, really cheap.

The reason I’m doing this for dirt-cheap is because I’m putting a program together for lawyers who are in a similar situation as you are, and the program would really benefit from me working with you right now.

It’s a win-win: my program is better, and you feel better. (I would charge you nothing except that there is a small transaction cost in working with clients that needs to be covered).

If there is room for improvement in your life, doing this is a no-brainer.

Delicious Details

  • You get 5 sessions over 5 weeks for $50 (that’s $10 per session).

After those 5 sessions, you (and only you) can buy 5 more sessions for half of my normal price (normally, 5 sessions costs $600, but you’d pay half — $300).

  • And, if you do opt for the 5 more, half-price sessions, you get the program I’m putting together (once it’s done) for free.

The program! I’m loving it!

  • It is a downloadable series of four, short lessons on how to know if the law is right for you (in your current legal path, in another capacity or doing something different entirely) and what to do next, no matter what the answer to that question is.
  • It has an audio, video and written portions that you can view at work, at home or on your iPod at the gym — whenever you have 20 minutes.
  • So, when you’re in your darkest hour and about to lose it, or just feel worn down and confused, you can start up this program and feel better, and clearer about what you want, and have some things you can do NOW about all of it.

I don’t know a single lawyer that doesn’t have doubts occasionally. This program is a process for dealing with those inevitable questions that we all think about.

I’m aware that that is an extremely good deal, but that’s kind of the point — it helps me out right now to work with you, so I want you to have a huge incentive to jump on this.

And because it’s a good deal, these 5 spots are going to go really quickly (just sayin’).

If you don’t buy this today, the world will fall apart!

Well, not really

In fact, I’m pretty sure nothing at all will happen if you don’t buy this, but that’s kind of the point right? If nothing changes for you, you’ll keep going like you’ve been going, and keep feeling how you’ve been feeling. Yuck.

If it were me, I’d prefer feeling happier and loving my life (for really, really cheap).

Sorry! All sold out! But we can still work together – and you can always hang out on the blog.

I’m excited to talk to you soon! And very excited for you to feel good and be in the best life for you.

P.S. — If you have any questions at all or you want to hear more, shoot me an email, laurie (at) lauriegay (dot) com, or call me 877-880-1535.

P.P.S. — One more thing — I will honestly tell you that, now that I’ve worked through the stuck places, I realllllly wish I had stumbled upon an opportunity like this back when I was searching for some answers. I struggled to find the right person to work with me to figure it out (a headhunter who just wants to put you in another firm or legal job regardless of what you want, because that’s how they make money? A therapist who doesn’t really “get” what you’re going through?). But, here’s the thing: if you’re not really feeling it with me, go with your gut and keep looking for people who are on your wavelength — I PROMISE that they are out there. But if what I’m saying feels pretty right on to you, follow your instincts — they are always right. Sign up before it’s sold out!

Okay, that’s all! Talk to you soon. :)
